Townsville in 5 days

Day 1 -

Welcome to Townsville a large town with plenty to offer. Head to “The Strand” (waterfront) and walk the long path along the beach. Spotted with palm trees, quite a few playgrounds, cafes, ice creameries and a splash park, theres plenty going on here.

After a treat? Our best recommendation is to head to pie house, upstairs you will find the donut room. A huge mix of gourmet donuts, shakes and coffee. Theres even a spot for the kids to play.

Day 2 -

Todays a day to be prepared.

Pack list: morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, towel, swimmers, plenty of water, sunscreen and a sneaky afternoon drink.

Jump in the car and head north to Little Crystal Creek. There is a windy road to get here but believe us when we say, it's so worth it. Eat, swim, relax, dry off and jump back in the car to head further north to Big Crystal Creek. Big Crystal is filled with natural water slides and so many little swimming nooks. Make sure you check for submerged rocks first, then climb those rocks and enjoy the thrill of jumping off the waterfall.

A whole day is needed to explore these two places.

Day 3 -

Magnetic Island or “Maggie” as the locals call it, is a must do. For this we suggest ferry transfers and hiring a car to explore the island on your own terms. Check out topless cars for something fun and instagram worthy!

Plenty to do here on the island, from water sports, sailing, island tours, relaxing on the beach, markets, aquarium, fishing and even golf!

There are cafes here to enjoy lunch and bars for a drink, check out Adeles Gelato for a treat. Pack swimmers as the beaches are hard to resist.

Maggie is action packed and will not disappoint.

Day 4 -

Townsville has a couple of amazing lookouts that really show you the size of the place. Our top pick is Castle Hill. Townsville is also filled with so much street art, it is well worth hitting the streets on foot and finding the paintings down ally ways or on the backs of main street buildings. Its incredible, our personal favourite walls are behind the Cowboys Leagues Club, and upstairs of the Pie House in the Donut Room. Check out the Townsville City Council website for a good map and trail to find their top picks.

Day 5 -

Today is aquarium day! We highly recommend the Reef HQ Aquarium. It's beautifully presented, very informative and they have a huge range of aquatic animals. There's a cafe and a spot for the kids to play too. Well worth taking your time and having a good look.

Don't forget to pop your head into the gift shop either, far too many cute little goodies to resist.

SIDE NOTE : If you are visiting during a weekend, check the local market guide. The markets held in the main street are fantastic and definitely worth a look.
